| When
you order a DX Roverdrive you need to order it with
the correct output gear for your vehicle. There are
three alternative gears. To identify the output gear
required follow the instructions below:
The
uppermost gear in the 230 transfer case has to be removed
when the overdrive is installed. The gear is extracted
by removing the round cover on the back of the transfer
case (Loosen six nuts and two countersunk screws to
take off). Once the cover is removed the gear can be
extracted. (On some models the gear must be rotated
to a favorable position before it will pull out).
You have to order a suitable replacement gear with
your new Roverdrive. To determine which gear to order,
count the teeth on your old gear and measure the face
width. Alternatively call up your friendly local Land
Rover dealer, give him your vehicle VIN number and ask
him what gear is fitted to the transfer case in your
Land Rover. From the information below, select the gear
identified and order an ‘A’, ‘B’,
or ‘C’ gear to go with your new Roverdrive.
Take the opportunity to inspect the shaft this gear
rides on for wear. These shafts tend to run dry and
yours may need replacement!
Gear type FRC4528 is found
on early 90 and 110 models. It has 26 teeth and is 27
mm wide. The gear you need with your DX ROVERDRIVE is
‘A’.
Gear type FRC5089 is found
in Defenders and Discoverys with 200TDI engines. It
has 26 teeth and is 33 mm wide. The gear you need with
your DX ROVERDRIVE is ‘B’.
Gear type FTC5087 is found
in Discoverys with 300TDI engines. It has 28 teeth and
is 33 mm wide. The gear you need with your DX ROVERDRIVE
is ‘C’.
The best way to determine if you need gear
‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ is to examine your installed gear as
described!
